Hi. I'm just getting started using Redhat Linux 5.1 and was hoping
someone might have time to give me tips on the following problems:
On boot, a message appears saying "Starting up APM daemon: apmd no APM
support in kernel." Then, when I log in as root and start linuxconf,
whether or not I make any changes when I try to quit it says that "system
is not in sync with changes" and then says it needs to start
/etc/rc.d/rc.d/SO5apmd (I may have spelled that wrong). Anyway, it tries
to do this and returns an error, saying there is no APM support in kernel.
What does this mean and how can I make it stop?
Another difficulty I'm having is an a recent inability to run the control
panel. I start the X-Window, type "control-panel", and instead of
starting the control panel I get back an error that says "insufficient
depth". What does this mean and how can I fix it so my control panel runs
again?
Also, on bootup it says "can't open /etc/dhpd.conf" but I don't know if
this is a problem... Is it?
As a minor issue, the clock is getting perpetually screwed up. It's
reading the time from the BIOS, but that keeps getting off. I don't know
if checking that GMT box in linuxconf for date/time will help. Should it?
I can't get my parallel port ZIP drive to work, and couldn't successfully
compile that program from the torque site. If anyone has any insight with
this I'd appreciate that too... Do I need to install stuff from the
second CD-ROM in the boxed set (the source code) to compile the ppa.o
thing?
