Huh?  You log in as yourself and then "su - root".  I do not know if secure
shell can be enabled when you do the su to root.  I know you can do a secure
shell for the initial login.

And why don't you have access to adduser after doing a su to root?

It is no more open to the world than it is now.  The login as root over
telnet is not turned on.
