I'm trying to solve a known problem where NT 4.0 shares which are mounted under linux 2.0.31 using "smbmount" (version 2.0.1) produce random incorrect modification times for files. I saw a patch for kernel-2.0.33 which fixes linux/fs/smbfs/proc.c to perform mtime computations differently under W95 and NT. I also noticed that kernel-2.0.34 appears to include this fix. For various reasons, I'm trying to avoid reinstalling an entirely new kernel and so have replaced my kernel-2.0.31/fs/smbfs with the newer kernel-2.0.34/fs/smbfs files and rebuilt the 2.0.31 kernel with the new smbfs. The build is successful and I see smbfs.o get linked into filesystems.a which in turn gets linked into the resulting kernel. But, when I reboot with the modified kernel and smbmount the NT share from an NT client, I still see incorrect times (many years in the future, many years in the past, sometimes correct). Any ideas what else I need to be doing? I'd like to avoid having to configure and rebuild an entirely new kernel (stability based on my current configuration is important). -- Tony Garland [EMAIL PROTECTED] Garland Consulting, 1373 S.
