Recently I had problems booting to linux , cause I change lib.so.6 point to the wrong thing , anyway , I remember seeing "rescue" and "single" mode as recovering somewhere in HOWTOs or minis , anyway , as I figured out redhat website in an excelent tool for figuring out what is wrong , all I had to type in "search" is "lilo single mode rescue" , one of the first documents returned contained exactly what I needed . Probably it is a good Idea to read /usr/doc directory or do some searches on website .
