What are you trying to do? Mine is setup to use the linux box as a web server for my homepage. Each I time I dialup my connection I have a small script which updates my IP address with monolith. Mt /etc/hosts is set up as follows: 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain 127.0.0.2 phar.knebel.com 127.0.0.3 knebel.dyn.ml.org The second name is to allow posting to some news groups which are picky about where mail comes from.
