Actually its not that (well, if you try to map a drive it is) but no,
you have to configure smb to be browseable. edit /etc/smb.conf, look
for the directories you have shared (i.e. homes) and look for
browseable=no, change it to yes, and off (or on!) you go!

That's because that idiots a M$crosoft now pass username and password
encrypted. I don't know if there is a patch on the Linux side, but you
can
change this behaviour on the NT by changing a registry key.

Linux is doing a reverse IP lookup. Add the names in the /etc/hosts
file
