No clue about the sig 11s, but I run a generic ViRGE/DX card that
wouldn't work with Metro-X 4.1.x (due to font corruption per your post),
and wouldn't work with XFree86 either. When I tried XFree, it set me to
the low res defaults, too, but I hand tweaked the config file, and got
it where I wanted it. Still, *images* seemed to display in low res,
although everything else was OK. I finally went to Metrolink's web site
to see if they had an updated driver for 4.1.x. They didn't, but for
$39, I bought Metro-X 4.3, which advertises support for Generic ViRGE
cards. I downloaded it (it's only distributed via ftp) and installed it
with generic ViRGE support, and there's no font corruption and images
dispaly properly. The only complaint I have is that there's excessive
flicker on my monitor. I thought it was because of refresh rates, and
sure enough, the Metro configurator didn't quite get it right, but even
after hand tweaking the refresh rates, I have too much flicker. I'll be
contacting Metrolink about that. At any rate, while I'm not totally
happy with my current setup, I can at least use it until Metrolink comes
up with a fix. Up to you if you want to try it. YMMV.
