gimp dumps core

[Marcantonio Magnarapa]

Hi,

        I have tried to launch GIMP under X but it says something about a problem
with the screen depth. It then dumps core. 

        I have a fresh redhat-5 installation on a intel 486.

        Is there anything I missed?
