If you read the KNOWNBUGS for 8.8.8, the exact same warning is in there
too. I 'assume' you are/were running 8.8.8 already, and are about to
upgrade to 8.9.0. Well, if that is so, it wont be any worse than before
:)
We notice this bug from time to time, but run multiple mail servers to
balance about 100,000 mail per day also.
Its not a loading issue in the kernel, as when the bug hits, we are under
.1 load (we run > 300 mhz on each box with at least 128 megs ram). So the
server its self is not hte bottle neck, there is some broken code in
linux's kernel or the sendmail daemon. It sometimes happens with just 10
sendmail sessions going, and others with > 50 going. So it seems to not
be directly load dependent on the sendmail deamon either.
I'm curious if any other ISP's see this, and what volume they push (we
push about 30k messages per server per day).
