I applied the patch file to bring my Redhat 5.0 kernel up 2.0.33 and followed the instructions in the Redhat manual for installing a new kernel. Everything appears to work fine but ... I'm curious about the file in the /boot directory. My /boot directory now contains System.map initrd-2.0.32.img-old vmlinuz System.map-2.0.32 map vmlinuz-2.0.32 boot.0300 module-info vmlinuz-2.0.32-old boot.b module-info-2.0.32 vmlinuz-2.0.33 chain.b os2_d.b Now the vmlinuz* and initrd* files I know. But I can't find documentation, etc. on System.map (link to System.map-2.0.32), module-info (link to module-info-2.0.32), map, boot.* and *.b. I am particularily interested in the System.map and module-info files because they seem to be distributed as part of the kernel binary rpm's and I'm wondering if by compiling up to 2.0.33 I am transgressing some unwritten law by not somehow updating them as well. Can anyone tell me what these various files are (or where they might be documented)? I tried to search the email archives for some info after man, etc. came up blank but I was not allowed in today. ---- Ken -- PLEASE read the Red Hat FAQ, Tips, Errata and the MAILING LIST ARCHIVES! http://www.redhat.com/RedHat-FAQ /RedHat-Errata /RedHat-Tips /mailing-lists To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
