Here is the situation, I am using the RH5.0 2.0.32 kernel. In order to
use the latest ftape, the kernel had to be recompiled so that ftape would
be a module instead of being linked. So, I renamed the /lib/modules/2.0.32
so that it wouldn't be screwed up by by a recompile. I also had a backup
of the kernel.

The test kernel works, except that I cannot load the latest ppa driver for
Zip drive support. It complains that the device is busy. After testing the
ftape, which appears to work, I renamed the lib/modules stuff to use the
previous modules and rebooted to the known good kernel.

Well, in a nutshell, the known good kernel now loads three modules that it
never loaded before (lp, Appletalk and something else) and refuses to load
the ppa driver that I had been using (device busy error).

OK, so what did a kernel compile do that screwed up my system so that what
was working is no longer working? I need Zip drive support back and now
it doesn't work.

I thought the idea of being able to build different test kernels was supposed
to be a breeze. Instead it has broken my system.

Any and all tips will be gladly accepted.

Thanks.
