The message 

  modprobe: can't locate module net-pf-5

is displayed four times during boot and twice during shutdown of my Redhat
5.0 custom compiled kernel.

On boot it appears just after the message

   Swansea University Computer Society IPX 0.34 for NET3.035
   IPX Portions Copyright (c) 1995 Caldera, Inc.

and just before the message

   eth0: Setting Rx mode to 1 addresses.

After poking around in the init scripts for a while I found that the
message is emitted when the ifconfig <interface> UP/DOWN command is
executed. However when I try the command from the command line after
booting there is no message displayed.

Can anyone tell me what the message is referring to?, i.e. what is the
net-pf-5 module? Protocol Family 5? And why is it missing? Here is my
