Hi Michael,
for the fat 32 id number just use the linux fdisk command:
to change the type back (i think it's "b" in hexadecimal notation,
but i'm not sure) of your partition you have to enter "t" at the fdisk
prompt, then you choose your partition and finally the id number:
however just typing "l" will show you all types supported by linux.
(in fdisk: "m" for the list of commands).
I know there's a patch for th 2.0.x kernel series to allow
mounting a fat32 volume, but i don't use it :-)), so i hope
that someone else will answer you on this.
