It really sounds like you have a DNS problem. Make sure /etc/resolv.conf points
to the correct DNS server. It should look something like this:
search mydomain.com
nameserver 192.168.1.2
where '192.168.1.2' is the IP address of your DNS server, and 'mydomain.com'
represents the domain name of the DNS server.
