That's hardly RB's fault. It is nit RB but the Finder that decides which
of the several apps with the same signature should be used to open a
document file, and if you keep more than one version of any app around,
this can lead to problems. But that's just how the Mac handles double-
clicking document files. As far as I can tell, it has been that way
since 1984.

There are several workarounds such as opening the desired version before
double-clicking the document, or opening it using drag-n-drop.
