Pretty much... yes. On the beta list, it is advised that we don't use the betas for development, backup projects, etc. etc. etc. There have been reports of projects getting destroyed, features get pulled, and bugs appear. So nobody actually develops using the betas because it would be suicide. So in general, we make a backup, open it in the beta, compile and run, and test some things. If a bug appears, we file it. But this misses most bugs.
It's exceedingly difficult to beta test a development environment because we have minimal time to test due to lost productivity. Especially when RS decides to release final candidates every 24 hours. Lately I have been very vocal about my displeasure with RS & RB. I would like to say that overall, I'm pleased with the number of bugs fixed in each release. I am, however, very displeased with the number of "new" features that are never completed. We get these "half-baked" features that RS never gets around to finishing... or worse, consider them finished. I've been traveling the path of Seth Willits & Kevin Ballard in finding that Cocoa has been far better to us for Mac OS X development. I had been working on a nice cross-platform project for a while, and actually started over because I couldn't stand how it was turning out using REALbasic. Having to re-invent wheels to make it behave like other OS X applications really frustrated me. So I started using Cocoa, and I'm excessively pleased so far. True, I gave up the cross-platform, but it wasn't worth it. So what I've decided to do is make a "agent" program that is cross-platform which links the other operating systems into the host on OS X. So although I'm using REALbasic Pro, it's only for light development. -- Thom McGrath The ZAZ Studios <http://www.thezaz.com/> AIM: thezazstudios On Apr 8, 2007, at 5:59 AM, Bastian Bense wrote: > I mean, is nobody using REALbasic > prereleases on real-life projects and testing it? _______________________________________________ Unsubscribe or switch delivery mode: <http://www.realsoftware.com/support/listmanager/> Search the archives: <http://support.realsoftware.com/listarchives/lists.html>
