Yes, you're right.

The working group can do stuff not in SRFIs, and just being in a SRFI is no
royal road. But it's clear that they look at SRFIs carefully, as well as
considering how widely-implemented they are. A key wiki page here:

To be honest, I'm comforted by the general tone of the material I've read.
They seem to be very interested in trying to solve Scheme's lack of
portability, and are constantly looking at what is actually *implemented*.

Reasonable enough. We might want to concentrate on curly-infix for now,
proposing it to the Scheme WG (at least for "Large"), creating a SRFI, and
getting it into some implementations (at least guile). We'll need to go
through our reader implementation with a finer-tooth comb to update it to the
current parsing specs (IIRC it's based on R5RS).
