Yes, I am of course very aware of the issue. But we had to separate out R-release and R-devel for years, and so I did. The hint from Martin got rid of that. Sometimes I wonder if we should have an extra-verbose mode that picks up EVERY single Sys.getenv() and alike to make it easier to trace this. But run-time cost of the check is probably unattractive.
