I am experiencing a problem trying to use a method from the bigmemory. Specifically, I am using attach.big.matrix but the problem manifests when trying to call attach.resource. My environment is as follows:
> sessionInfo() R version 2.10.1 (2009-12-14) x86_64-pc-linux-gnu locale: [1] LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 LC_NUMERIC=C [3] LC_TIME=en_US.UTF-8 LC_COLLATE=en_US.UTF-8 [5] LC_MONETARY=C LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8 [7] LC_PAPER=en_US.UTF-8 LC_NAME=C [9] LC_ADDRESS=C LC_TELEPHONE=C [11] LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.UTF-8 LC_IDENTIFICATION=C attached base packages: [1] stats graphics grDevices utils datasets methods base other attached packages: [1] bigmemory_4.2.3 loaded via a namespace (and not attached): [1] tools_2.10.1 The generic function attach.resource has the following methods: > showMethods("attach.resource") Function: attach.resource (package bigmemory) obj="big.matrix.descriptor" obj="character" I am trying to call the second version of the method with "character" signature. > attach.resource('my_big_matrix.desc') Error in function (classes, fdef, mtable) : unable to find an inherited method for function "attach.resource", for signature "list" I would expect this to dispatch correctly as the class of the argument is correct: > class('my_big_matrix.desc') [1] "character" I suspect something may be wrong with my installation of R. It is version 2.10.1 on Ubuntu 64bit. Any help is appreciated.
