Your attachment didn't come through, save the file in the csv format and name it *.txt. Moreover, you ask what is wrong with your syntax, but what syntax? What is your code? Post a minimal example of what you are trying if you want answers from us.
In the mean time at an R pormpt try

?as.Date
?format
