Microsoft is unlikely to answer. You need to realize that the device you have 
does not use the same processor or software API used by regular Windows 8 
machines. Programs need to be compiled for "Windows Runtime (WinRT)". Microsoft 
considers the incompatibility of the Surface with open source programs to be a 
"feature" protecting the unwise users from contamination by the outside world.
