I was able to put tck=-0.1 into either par() or axis() and it made a tick difference I understood. As I understand it, default for mgp is c(3,1,0). When I put mgp=c(3,4,0) or mgp=c(3,7,0) into either par() or axis() I see no difference. Hurr
