It's better to keep this on the list, the odds of getting more and
better answers are greater.
You need to type getwd() with the parenthesis and no arguments. It
always returns something (the current wd).

so "nothing happens" might mean that there is no apparent feedback.
You can see if it changed the wd with getwd().
