No error in 2009 with the same files.

vignettes are now required to declare their encodings. If you didn't
intend to include non-ascii characters, tools::showNonASCIIfile will
display the problematic lines.
And if you did, there is a section called 'Encodings' in the Sweave
manual (and has been for a year at least).
