You can't do that on disk - try:

> colnames( dfr ) <- c( "Mike", "Kate", "Michelle", "Paul", "Young" )
>
> dfr
>
Mike Kate Michelle Paul Young
1 33 44 55 66 77
> write.table( dfr, "/Users/MAC/Desktop/data.txt" )
