A new version of glmnet is uploaded to CRAN. This should take care of the problem on PCs that caused it to fail there. Many thanks to B. Narasimhan for his stoic efforts in debugging this problem, which was a real nasty idiosyncrasy in the gfortran compiler that exists on windows but not on linux or MacOS platforms.
