thanks Michael and William, I have resigned to moving the wednesday in to the tuesday file and keeping tuesday as the work directory. this seemed to solve the problem, but i think that also means that i do have permission to access the wednesday file. i don't quite understand what went wrong, but it's not the first time i've experienced problems with programs on my mac. could it be a bug or a compatibility issue?
