I am using 2.14.2 and use CTL+C & CTL+V all the time without any surprises; it simply works.
I suspect that you are using 2.14.2 on Windows 7 computer as user who does not have Administrator provileges. If that is the case, by default, R will not have access to the clipboard, hence the failures.
