Take a look at this:

[1] FALSE
> all.equal(a,b)
[1] "Attributes: < Component 2: 4 string mismatches >"
> rownames(a) <- rownames(b) <- NULL
> identical(a,b)
[1] TRUE
> all.equal(a,b)
[1] TRUE
