The general idea is to open a console and run R CMD INSTALL packfor_0.0-7.tar.gz and if things are set up properly, all the compiling will be done for you. On a Mac you can also do this from R.app, by choosing the right options (for a local source package) in the Install Packages dialog. (I'm not on a Mac right now so I can't give you the exact names). If this doesn't work you'll need help with setup, and you should probably ask for that on R-sig-mac.
