That's what I do with gridExtra, and it works well; the code is hosted on 
googlecode (which has nice wiki capabilities) and the binaries are built on 
r-forge. The only "drawback" is that your project activity on r-forge is not 
tracked (not that it matters to me). 
The feature used to be available in the Admin tab of "R packages" for a given 
project, but today I cannot see the option anymore (the page is blank). I guess 
this is due to the changes to the website.
