Thank you for the comments. That driver dates from 1997 or so, and I believe we failed to contact the author several years ago, but a later email address is in the THANKS file.

It is really present for historical reasons, and other things change -- so I have added LaTeX package graphics (although graphicx will do, graphics suffices) and removed the Plain TeX example.

The tikzDevice in the package of that name might be a suitable replacement.
