I think your expectation is misplaced - they are different distros, with different packages, and even where packages *seem* to be the same, their contents may differ. Hardware support is difficult. In *many* cases the templates will be interchangeable. In some, not. You will often see people here being advised to switch templates to resolve hardware issues for this very reason. Your original post seemed to suggest that the Debian template didn't come with packages required to act as sys-XXX - this isn't true. It *may* lack packages required for some hardware - just install them.
