Just for completeness: you're free to GPL a derived work. The folks who BSD-licensed it to you may consider that offensive, but the law doesn't consider it wrong. You may care a whole lot more for how these folks feel about you than what the law permits you to do. I'd consider switching to GPL only if I made substantial changes.
