That's what I thought you do. Wouldn't it be better to do equal spaced ticks on the axis? Unfortunately there is no automatism for this in PyX for time axes (yet), so you have to code it yourself. Still, it is quite unusual to put ticks at those positions of the axis, where you have data values rather than put them equal spaced or so ...
