The word encode is ambiguous. What do you mean? The example Fredrik
gave to you does encode:
>>> import cgi
>>> cgi.escape(u"áéíóüóöoúüu").encode("ascii", "xmlcharrefreplace")
'áéíóüóöőúüű'
