Indentation alignment will (because you're using only spaces). Otherwise
it doesn't align (it can't), simply because of the "variable-width".
For instance (in a variable-width font):
if a == b:
var123 = 22
varxyz456 = 333
^^^^ ^^^^^
aligned not aligned
