but I would probably do it more like this:
TOKEN = 'FILEVERSION '
for line in file:
if line.startswith(TOKEN):
version = line[len(TOKEN):]
maj, min, rev, other = version.split(',')
break # if there's only one occurance, otherwise do stuff here
