OK, so this fails:
my_ip_addr = socket.gethostbyname(socket.gethostname())
Try it from the python command line. This is what happens when I try it
on FC6 w/ Python 2.5 (retyped, tho):

>>> socket.gethostname()
'localhost.localdomain'
>>> socket.gethostbyname(_)
'127.0.0.1'
