I agree with this sentiment. Also see comments by Ben Darnell and others here: https://github.com/python/peps/pull/272#pullrequestreview-41388700 Moreover I think that a 2.7 policy decision shouldn't depend on whatever future plans there are for Requests. The slippery slope of relaxing maintenance policy on 2.7 has come to absurd extremities. If Requests is to remain 2.7-compatible, it's up to Requests to do the necessary work to do so.
