It doesn't really matter much either way to me; the status quo is fine (although I think a patch to Tools/msi/msi.py is still needed).
We may have to ship our own SHA-3 code for quite a while. OpenSSL hasn't even began to include SHA-3.
Well... I find it cute to have SHA-3 implemented in Python, however, it probably wouldn't have hurt to only add support five years from now.
