Now that this change is made, it may make sense to update the subprocess documentation to reference TextIOWrapper's documentation instead of open()'s (since use of the 'U' flag to open() is discouraged in new code). "All line endings will be converted to '\n' as described for the universal newlines 'U' mode argument to open()."
