The String type in Ruby 1.9 is a byte string with an encoding attribute. Most online Ruby documentation is for 1.8 but the API can be examined here: http://ruby-doc.org/ruby-1.9/index.html Here's something more explanatory: http://blog.grayproductions.net/articles/ruby_19s_string My view is that this actually makes things much more complex by making encoding combination an n*n problem (where n is the number of encodings) rather an n sized problem when you have a single core string type Neil _______________________________________________ Python-Dev mailing list Python-Dev@python.org http://mail.python.org/mailman/listinfo/python-dev Unsubscribe: http://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-dev/archive%40mail-archive.com
