[pygtk] modify_bg on treeview

i have recently returned to GTK from an extended, corporate exile in the 
land of randomly segfaulting toolkits who shall remain nameless.  it is 
like romancing an old lover only to find her technique has improved with 
age.

although, i seem to be having problems getting treeviews to change their 
background color. 

color = gtk.gdk.rgb_get_colormap().alloc_color('black')
treeview.modify_bg( gtk.STATE_INSENSITIVE, color )
doesn't do anything.  it works for the widgets that the pygtk ref says 
it should (i.e. ones with an associated window), but not for the 
treeview for some reason.

any ideas?
