I am interested in getting some subset of gnome working on win32. I
know that pretty much everything works with Cygwin, but I would like a
native environment that does not require an X server, hence I would
like to be able to run natively. I know that some elements are
portable because Dia and other projects dependant on Diacanvas work on
win32. I am personally interested in the druid widget right now, but
can see use for other higher level widgets as well. Does anyone have
a pointer to some documentation on what does and does not work with
win32 natively and perhaps how to make it work?

The dependency list (http://www.gnome.org/start/2.8/notes/rninstallation.html) is very long before reaching libgnomeui ! As an exercise, try to build Orbit2 natively on win32...

I guess your best bet is to try to build selected parts of libgnome and libgnomeui that have no external dependencies.
