checking for pango >= 1.0.0... Package pango was not found in the pkg-config search path.
Perhaps you should add the directory containing `pango.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'pango' found

now, i went and looked around for similar errors and found out a lot of information about how to set the environment variable....i do so by typing 'export PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/lib.....blah blah blah. i look in my bash shell configuration file (.bashrc) and i see the path to the pango.pc file in the environment....but when i try and ./configure i get teh same message? why doesn't ./configure know about the environment varialbe even after i set it in my environment? sorry if there is an obvious solution but i am stumped....ANY infor would be great!
cheers
