Summarized this thread into FAQ 21.11. I changed Tim's part of the
answer somewhat to take into account the fact that other versions of
Windows *do* allow setting font smoothing (AFAICS -- I've been known to
get things wrong, but all versions of Windows -- with the Plus Pack in
the case of Win95 -- I've used had this option). Feel free to correct or
improve the answer I've edited.
