I was faced with a similar situation with VTE, the terminal widget used by gnome-terminal in GNOME 2. It had a good start at Python bindings, but needed some attention. I would have been less inclined to work on them if they were maintained externally.

I've some questions about gtkSourceView; this widget is basically derived from
gtkTextView and gtkTextBuffer and is an official part of gnome platform (please
correct me if i'm wrong). At the moment gnome-python doesn't support it and the
only wrapper available is at bitbuilder.com thanks to Ahmad Baitalmal (great
work guy!). But also this wrapper seems not to be complete (it misses some methods).
I would like to know if this widget will be included in future release of
gnome-python and if not why, because I am working on a long term project and
I've to decide if to use gtkSourceView or not.
