The parser and evaluator of puppet is about to be replaced (in 4.0) with what is now available when you use --parser future. If you are into testing details of the language, it is valuable to also test with --future parser. In the future parser there is a distinction between numbers and strings, but conversion will still take place from string to number when doing arithmetic (it even does it correctly, and reports relevant errors).
