There are a few things missing for me to have xbmc+pulse working well
with a surround system over HDMI:
- volume control when in passthrough mode
- volume control via the amplifier; I see 2 methods here:
- either via HDMI CEC, but from the latest spec the only
available commands are volume-up and volume-down, no way
to directly set a volume, nor to calibrate it properly
- via a serial cable, it's amp-specific but more capable
- [off topic] more than 2 PCM channels via HDMI radeon drivers
